WE HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A KINGDOM

“You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel” (Luke 22:28–30 ESV).

In the midst of the Last Supper, after rebuking His disciples for arguing about who was the greatest, Jesus affirms them with surprising tenderness. Despite their flaws and impending failures, He honors their loyalty throughout His ministry. Then He makes a stunning promise: just as the Father assigned Him a kingdom, He now assigns that same kingdom to them. This is more than comfort—it is commissioning. Jesus invites them to participate in the eternal Kingdom of God, with privileges of fellowship (“eat and drink at my table”) and responsibility (“sit on thrones judging”). These words reveal the heart of Christ. He doesn’t merely save us; He welcomes us into His reign, gives us a seat at His table, and grants us a role in His rule.

We often feel unworthy to be called Christ’s disciples. We falter, fall short, and sometimes fail miserably. Yet Jesus, in His grace, still calls us faithful when we remain with Him. Like the disciples, we are invited—not because of our perfection, but because of His faithfulness—to be citizens of His eternal Kingdom. That changes how we live. We don’t just belong to this world; we belong to a greater Kingdom. We have a place at the King’s table and a future full of purpose. Let us live today with the confidence of those who’ve been assigned a Kingdom, walking in loyalty, humility, and hopeful anticipation of the day we will see our King face to face.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us to be members of Your Kingdom. Though we are weak and undeserving, You see our desire to follow You and call us faithful. Help us to live as true citizens of Heaven—serving humbly, loving boldly, and looking forward to the joy of sitting at Your table. Keep our hearts loyal to You through trials and remind us that our future is secure in You. In Your name we pray, amen.
