“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” (Romans 8:35 ESV).
The apostle Paul posed a rhetorical question concerning the love of Christ asking, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Then after offering several possible separating scenarios, he concludes, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that [nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (37-38).
There is nothing that can separate believers from the love of Christ. There is no charge nor condemnation that can come against God’s elect. There is no one nor any circumstance that can separate them from God’s love. The One whose love spanned sin’s chasm between humanity and a holy God, has overcome every hindrance of separation through His death and resurrection.
Do you struggle with separation anxiety? Have loved ones let you down? Look to Jesus. Christ’s love is an inseparable love. He will never leave nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5). Nothing is able to come between us. He is ours and we are His forever.
PRAYER: Dear Father, Your love for us is overwhelming. Help us to rest in Your love through Christ Jesus our Lord, knowing that nothing can separate us from You. For Your love has bridged the gulf of separation between us through Christ Jesus and Your love and grace saves and keeps us. We give you praise for Your great love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
