THE SOURCE OF TRUE SATISFACTION
The psalmist declared that thanksgiving is due to the Lord for His wonderful goodness and mercy. For God is the only one who can truly satisfy the longing of the human soul.
There is a thirst and a hunger that the body knows. God created this in man that he might know when to drink and eat. Otherwise, the body would starve and die.
There is also a thirst and hunger that the soul knows. Yet, fallen man cannot satisfy his soul’s longing, try as he may. For the things of this world cannot quench the soul’s thirst, nor satisfy its hunger. Only Christ can satisfy. As Augustine said, “Thou hast made us for Thyself O Lord and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in Thee.”
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:48). For Christ is the Living Bread for which our soul hungers, He is the Living Water for which our soul thirsts. Let us turn to Him as our source of true satisfaction.
PRAYER: Dear Father, You made us for Yourself, yet our sin has separated us from You. Thank You for Jesus who paid our sin debt and redeemed us and adopted us into Your family by grace through faith in Him. Now our soul’s delight in You. For the thirst and hunger of our souls has been satisfied in Christ! Thank You Lord! In Jesus name, amen.
