“Now that the land was under Israelite control, the entire community of Israel gathered at Shiloh and set up the Tabernacle” (Joshua 18:1 NLT).

HAVE YOU JOINED THE GATHERING AT SHILOH?

“Shiloh” was a town located in the land of Ephraim where Joshua had the Tabernacle set up. Shiloh was the home for the Tabernacle from the time of Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land until the time of Eli’s wicked sons as recorded in 1 Samuel.

The Hebrew name “Shiloh” was first mentioned in Jacob’s blessing over Judah and is often used synonymously for Messiah. As Jacob said, “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes” (Gen. 49:10). The word “Shiloh” comes from the Hebrew “shalom,” and has been translated to mean, “the coming of rest, the coming of peace, or place of rest.” It was at Shiloh that Joshua divided the land for the final seven tribes. For the Promised Land was finally at peace.

Now, our Shiloh has come. His name is Jesus. He is our peace. He is our rest. Have you answered His invitation? For He has said, “Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).

PRAYER: Dear Father, we have heard Shiloh calling to us. We have answered the Spirit of Christ who beckons us to come to Him. In Christ Jesus, we have found peace and rest for our souls. We give thanks and ask for strength this day to tell others of this Good News. In Jesus’ name, amen.
