‘Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”’ (Acts 7:58-59 ESV).
I wonder how often Saul thought of Stephen. Certainly, Saul, who was called Paul after his conversion, often mentioned Stephen in his testimony (See Acts 22:20). Perhaps Stephen’s final words of forgiveness haunted Saul, but later inspired Paul. Stephen’s ministry may have been short-lived, but it no doubt motivated Paul and other believers to be bold about preaching the gospel no matter the consequence.
We may never know this side of heaven how our faith testimony affects those who hear it. Even those who oppose us may later come to faith because of our witness. Therefore let us be bold in proclaiming Jesus to all.
PRAYER: Dear Father, strengthen us this day to proclaim Jesus to all. For He is our Savior and Lord. We live to serve Him. We know that You desire all people to come to repentance and believe in Him. Therefore, stretch forth Your hand and give us boldness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
