“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42 ESV).
Martha was working hard in the kitchen while her sister, Mary, sat at the feet of Jesus listening. Martha was hurt, feeling that Jesus didn’t care that her sister had left her serving alone. But Jesus approved of Mary’s choice to sit and listen to Him, enjoying His presence without working. He instructed Martha that listening and resting in Him was the right choice, the “one thing” needed.
What are you “anxious and troubled about” today? Believe in the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who has defeated sin, death and the grave. Rest in Him. Listen to His voice. For Jesus still invites us to come to Him for rest and not only rest but purpose and meaning.
PRAYER: Dear Father, we believe in the Resurrected One, Jesus Christ. We rest in His great work and listen to His voice. Speak to us this day. Lead, guide and direct our path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
