“The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22)

March 2, 2012

Striving for riches, we often find suffering instead. But when we follow Jesus, seeking first His Kingdom, He meets our needs along the way. Following is better than striving. When we drink from His cup, it may burn on the way down, but it leaves no bitter aftertaste.

“People who wink at wrong cause trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace” (Proverbs 10:10)

A truism for the family, the church and the nation. It starts with the parent who thinks their child’s sin is cute. It won’t be when its full-grown. This “winking at wrong” problem starts in the home and has spread to our culture. Parents, boldly reprove sin in your child!

“The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces” (Proverbs 10:8)

February 21, 2012

Great leaders are learners, they know when to ask for advice. But fools think they can do everything themselves. Do you have a mentor? Someone speaking into your life? Start listening more, talking less. As my mother used to say,”Stop talking just to hear your head rattle!”

“So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you” (Proverbs 9:8)

Not what’s leftover at the end of the month. Not what’s nearly used up or tattered. Give the first part. Give the best part.

“Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy” (Proverbs 2:9-10)

How one receives a Judeo-Christian Worldview. Let the Word of God rewrite your mental hard drive. For the Christian, this is the transformed mind of Romans 12:2.

“They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes” (Proverbs 1:30-31)

Much of human suffering is not due to God’s action, but to man’s own foolish choices. Here is a truth worth knowing: Sin = suffering.

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him” (Proverbs 30:5)

December 16, 2011

God’s Word is what it says it is and it does what it says it can do. It is without flaw and therefore not to be added to or subtracted from. Are you a student of the Word? Have you found refuge in His promises?

“Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul” (Proverbs 29:17)

December 8, 2011

Children are not born with self-discipline. Parents must apply external discipline which teaches self-discipline. Of course, this requires self-discipline on the parents part. Our children often reveal our own problems with anger and self-control. This should drive parents to prayer!

“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control” (Proverbs 29:11)

December 6, 2011

Parents teach your children to control their tempers. Your external control grows into their self-control later. Yet, the best is the internal fruit of the Spirit which includes self-control. Stop saying you have a bad habit or anger issues and start walking in the Spirit.
