January 20, 2012

God never tires. He takes no naps, nor feels discouraged. God is omnipotent. And He sends His Holy Spirit to dwell in those of us who believe. Rise up believer! Declare your love for Him and draw on His strength! Rise up and be the world-changing overcomer God has called you to be!

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (Psalm 16:11)

January 18, 2012

This is real praise, an awareness of what the Lord has done, is doing and will do, and then, praising Him for it. When is the last time you wrote a love and praise letter like this to God?

“Why do the wicked get away with despising God?” (Psalm 10:13)

January 11, 2012

The Psalmist questions the prosperity of the wicked. Why? Why does God let them get away with such injustice and unbelief? Why do the wicked prosper? This is a prayer for God’s justice. Finally, the Psalmist expresses his confidence in God to handle it. Are you upset about something unfair today? Pray it out.

“I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done” (Psalms 143:5)

December 24, 2011

True faith always involves both reason and emotion. We engage the mind to remember His Word and His blessings. We meditate on His faithfulness to us and our hearts are encouraged. Today, we remember and give thanks for the gift of the Christ.

“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalms 141:3)

December 22, 2011

David understood that no man can tame the tongue (James), so he asked for the Lord’s help. This is a great daily prayer, especially for those of us that talk a lot. Asking the Lord to guard our mouths, we should also request that He tune our ears for listening. Talk less, listen more.

“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me” (Psalm 139:1)

December 20, 2011

The Greek philosophers taught that to “know thyself” was the beginning of wisdom. But the Psalmist says that God knows you better than you can know yourself. The answers you seek are not inside you. Self knowledge is best acquired by knowing the One who made you. Let Him tell you your true identity.

“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD'” (Psalm 122:1)

December 3, 2011

David loved to worship in God’s House, especially when he had fellow worshipers to go with him. I’ve always loved going to church too, but it’s not the building. It’s the burning presence of God’s Spirit and the gathered people of God worshiping that woo me there. See you Sunday!

“I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word” (Psalm 119:147)

November 29, 2011

Better to put your hope in the unchanging Word than in the ever changing circumstances of this world. God’s Word will accomplish what it says. The one who wrote Ps.119 knew this. Take some time to study this the longest chapter in the Bible. List the different words used for Word (law, promise…).

“At midnight I rise to give you thanks” (Psalm 119:62)

November 24, 2011

When sleep doesn’t come for busy thoughts, rise and give thanks. Turn your mind to the many blessings of God and thank Him for each one. Count your blessings. It’s better for sleep than counting sheep. And more meaningful too. Happy Thanksgiving Day!

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11)

November 21, 2011

In this day of Google search and multiple translations, we still need to memorize Scripture. It’s the best way to “hide” God’s Word in your heart. Memorizing and meditating on the Word overwrites the old hard drive with a new operating system.
