Have you been grieving a loss? A loved one has died. Or a marriage or dream has failed. Your condition seems permanent, but not when you turn to the Lord. With Him, your tears may last for the night, but joy comes in the morning. Turn to Jesus and watch the sun come up again.

A Davidic psalm that described the torturous death of crucifixion centuries before it was used. These are the very words that Jesus spoke from the cross. He took our death, so we might receive life. He was forsaken, that we might be brought near and cry out “Abba!”

The Psalmist questions the prosperity of the wicked. Why? Why does God let them get away with such injustice and unbelief? Why do the wicked prosper? This is a prayer for God’s justice. Finally, the Psalmist expresses his confidence in God to handle it. Are you upset about something unfair today? Pray it out.

David understood that no man can tame the tongue (James), so he asked for the Lord’s help. This is a great daily prayer, especially for those of us that talk a lot. Asking the Lord to guard our mouths, we should also request that He tune our ears for listening. Talk less, listen more.
