Galatians 5:16-25
|
exposition, fruit of the spirit, legalism
Don’t you wish you could do what you really want to do? What if you could start your life all over again. Would you do anything differently? I’m not sure that people really set out to do something bad or stupid. They just kind of slide into certain habits and behaviors that get them into more and more trouble. Then, they feel stuck by their mistakes, enslaved by their bad habits. They want to change, but they have no power to change. Some try to make new rules for themselves to change, but they end up breaking their own regimen. Others just give into their habits and desires, deciding to just go with the downward flow. But Paul knew a better way…
In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he warned that the only way to continue to live in freedom was by the power of the Holy Spirit. We can live in the freedom of the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:1-6
|
character, discipleship, fruit of the spirit
As we conclude our sermon series called, “Nine Marks”, we’re looking at the final fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23. Technology and our culture make it evermore difficult to control our own desires. We learn through 2 Peter 1:1-6, though, that when Christ lives in us, he gives us his control so self-control ends up being more like “Christ-control”.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
|
character, discipleship, fruit of the spirit
Pastor Jonathan Minter continued our series on the Nine Marks of True Christian Christian Character by helping us see how the fruit of goodness can grow in our lives. In 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, Paul prays for his Christian brothers and sisters, that God would make them worthy of His calling, that God would fulfill every resolve for good and work of faith with power, and that God would glorify the name of Christ through them. The fruit of goodness helps challenge us to make sure God’s goodness gets brought to every area of our lives.

Ephesians 4:1-27
|
character, discipleship, fruit of the spirit
Pastor Gary continued preaching on the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, this week on the fruit of patience. Patience in the biblical sense is not just waiting, but enduring in the strength of the Lord, having a long fuse. Christ’s mark of patience is about a state of being, bearing with one another, keeping a lid on our anger, and become more like Christ who is patient with us.

character, discipleship, fruit of the spirit
Pastor Gary Combs kicked off our study of the 9 fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 by looking at how God’s perfect love in the form of Jesus Christ can motivate our actions, be both our example and source of power, and how we can rely on Christ’s love to sustain our relationships.
